The Cowboy and the Queen
The story of Sloan Williams, a cowhand from Millican, Texas and the greatest love of his life, Mollie Jo Forgason, all around cowgirl and Texas High School Rodeo Queen. A true account of their life as rodeo stock contractors and owners of the V-8 RANCH A real page turner, impossible to put away until the very last word.
By cowboy poet DEREK ANDERSON DUNCAN
THE COWBOY AND THE QUEEN
She is a Queen I'm here to tell ya,
Her blood runs red, white and TEXAS blue.
A "RODEO GAL" from the Forgason clan,
Best thing from the Hudgins spread, this much is true.
Then in rides a Cowhand who caught her eye,
In the saddle he was ridin' tall.
He throwed his rope around her,
Hog- tied 'er - heart an' all.
The Cowboy asked the Queen to marry,
To wear his ring just like a brand.
She swore to him that through it all,
Beside him she would stand.
That was quite a-ways back ya' see.
Things have changed a lot, to be sure,
But there's one thing that ain't no different,
True love always will endure.
A life together, hand in hand,
Yeah, side by side since '54,
Workin' hard to make ends meet
And trustin' in the Lord.
When those church doors are open,
Every Sunday and any time in between,
You will find them praisin' God,
The Cowboy an' the Queen.
With the good Lord there for guidance,
They had to make some dough.
Then the cowboy told his Queen,
"LET'S HAVE A RODEO".
"I CAN SEE IT ALL MY DARLIN'
WILD HORSES AN' BUCKIN' BULLS.
DOGGIN' STEERS AN' ROPIN' CALVES,
THE BLEACHERS, THEY'LL ALL BE FULL".
They played this game called "RODEO",
The stock was good an' they loved to win.
But as the sayin' goes, I'm sure you've heard,
All good things must end.
They cashed it in and sold their stock,
The ride really had been great.
Then the cowboy bought the ranch.
He's now "KING SLOAN" of the big V-8.
He rules this kingdom with his QUEEN,
Or "MISS MOLLIE" as she's called.
They've met the challenge in the ring,
An' conquered one an' all.
Yeah, blue ribbons adorn the castle,
Don't forget the purple an' the gold.
Defeat is one word they ain't learned,
Nah' the winnin' jus' don't get old.
Until the day they pass the crown
And descend the V-8 throne,
They'll rule this BRAHMAN EMPIRE
Where champions are grown.
Well they can see the future,
When it's time to change command.
It's the V-8 Prince and Princess,
they call 'em JIM and JAN.
Well, this empire keeps on growin',
Gran' children share the love.
RACHEL, CATHERINE AND PAYTON
Sent straight from Heaven above.
Now folks, behind those PEARLY GATES,
There's BRAHMAN cattle an' a first rate RODEO.
An' you know the good Lord got his stock
From SLOAN an' MOLLIE JO.
